Supporting First Year Students with Transition
Ms. Kearns is pairing 1 Rech and 1 McCauley with Transition Year Mentors to support them as they continue to settle into secondary school.
Transition Year Mentor Responsibilities
- To act as leaders and role models
- To provide practical support and advice to 1 st year students
- To meet regularly with 1 st year students and to help them develop a sense of belonging
- To communicate with teachers as needed, especially around issues of bullying
- To respect all opinions, feelings and lifestyle
Child Protection
Child Safeguarding – ensuring safe practice and appropriate responses by workers and volunteers to concerns about the safety or welfare of children, including online concerns, should these arise. Child safeguarding is about protecting the child from harm, promoting their welfare and in doing so creating an environment which enables children and young people to grow, develop and achieve their full potential.
All Transition Year and First Year students are informed of the above statement during our Mentoring Programme.
Transition Year Students will support First Year students with:
1.Lockers 2.Books 3.Lates 4.Bullying 5.Absenteeism 6.Subjects 7.General Social Issues 8.Check in at least twice during the week at lunchtime or recess 9.Meet at Lockers twice a week (before school/recess/lunchtime/end of day) 10. Report All concerns to Ms.Joyce or Ms.Kearns
