Our Sensory Garden Project- It's Going to Bee Amazing!
Bee amazed (pun intended- we are actually going to have bees and a bee keeper!) by images from the plan for the garden here.
Read a recent article in the Dublin People about the project here.
Bro. Fred is going to capture how this transformation is going to happen for us.
St Laurence College will commence work next week to create a sensory and wellbeing garden at the rear of the school. This will be a space for successful integration of all students, a transition space for incoming students and an important place to remember members of our community. Our plan incorporates an innovative pathway for increased sustainability in the school by planting local flora and fauna, herb gardens, a sensory garden and amenity spaces. We will have also have two outdoor learning spaces also, which are not included in the 3D image. Our students in partnership with Aviva Ireland we will have a bee colony, a local beekeeper and a tailored curriculum on beekeeping for students.
Our sensory space will provide much needed respite to our students with Autism. We want this space to be the first of its kind.
This will be complimented by our recent granting of additional autism support classrooms and support facilities. We are also in the process of a full roof upgrade worth over €550,000. We wish to thank the amazing support and generosity of Fujitsu UK/Ireland, Aviva Ireland, Cuala GAA, Difference Days, Outdoor Spaces, Morris Tarmacadam, Murphy & Sheanon, Tesco Ireland and other community partners.
However, we are looking for more in order to complete this project!
