I Know What You Watched Last Summer Art Challenge!

If you enjoyed Manga May or Draw a Dozen we have a new art challenge to inspire your creativity as we settle back into school. Drawing as a hobby is great for your wellbeing, it allows you to use your imagination and express yourself. It's also great to talk to your friends about what you draw and share your ideas. All our drawing challenges are about encouraging you to find your own style. So all you need is paper and an ink pen or pencil to get started. Why not start a sketchbook this year?

Our new challenge is based around what Netflix and Disney Plus had to offer over the summer holidays. New shows were launched and older movies were released again. Did you enjoy any of these summer block busters?

As Marvel prepare us for next evolution of the MCU Disney released LOKI. Heavily based on classic Marvel Comics- did you enjoy the time-keepers, multi-verse time and the mysterious Kang? Lots of students participated in Manga May and they talked about their love of anime. Well probably the most famous Anime movie from the 1980's was released on Netlix this summer. Did you find it? Katsuhiro Otomo’s 1988 film Akira changed animation forever and introduced many people in the West to Anime and Manga. Disney also added Battle Angel Alita to their platform. Based on the 1990's Manga by Japanese Artist Yukito Kishiro- this cyberpunk classic is also a must 'see' and then 'read' for manga and anime fans. And of course the quirky My Hero Academia landed on Netflix. As of April 2021, the manga has over 50 million copies in circulation worldwide and the shows has many dedicated fans in the school. Our last show posed the question: What happened after the world got sick? Yes it's the Netflix adaptation of the DC/Vertigo comic Sweet Tooth by Jeff Lemire. The dsytopian theme may have been too much for some viewers in the middle of a pandemic but the character Gus filled our screens with hope.

So maybe you enjoyed them all or maybe you are adding them to your watch list now! The challenge is simple- draw characters from any of the shows in your own style! And to help you we have a range of resources below to help you. If you want your art to be featured on our school twitter @stlaurencecoll2 drop into A4 or A7 and tell us about what you sketched.

Enjoy! Draw for fun and as a hobby!
