Dear Parents/Guardians,
The final months of the academic year create a sense of occasion, as we recognise the end of the school year and begin to prepare for the new one. For sixth year students, preparing for the Leaving Certificate and the natural rites of passage to a world of third level education or employment, and the formal ending of time in school, is traditionally marked by a in graduation ceremony at the end of the school
year.
This year we will be holding an end of year graduation ceremony for our sixth-year students, however it will not be possible for us to carry these out in the traditional format. Therefore, we will hold a virtual graduation for our students on Thursday 20th May 2021 at 4.30pm. This ceremony will be held via Zoom and recorded and sent to each Parent/Guardian at 7pm that evening. This has not been an easy decision and I wish to thank our sixth years for their mature response to another difficult ask. As much as our emotions wish us to have a traditional graduation, logic dictates that anything that could endanger our students’ chances in the traditional leaving certificate must take precedence.
It is important that we continue to implement key infection prevention control measures to minimise the spread of COVID-19. We are making every effort to avoid organising events that could lead to the unnecessary congregation of students or family members as well as jeopardise the Leaving Certificate Examinations. Sixth years who are not opting into any traditional leaving certificate exam will finish school Friday 14th May. Any student who is sitting a state examinations leaving certificate exam will have regular classes as per the current timetable.
Our core objective is that any activity is operated in a safe manner and must adhere to public health advice and the school’s COVID-19 Response plan. We appreciate you support and understanding at this time.
Your sincerely
Mr. Shane FitzGerald
