Crumbling Cookies in Ms. Jones' First Year History Class
Ms. Jones' First Years history class have been busy recently getting to grips with the job of the historian and archaeologist.
They participated in 'A Museum of Me' project. They brought in at least 5 "Personal Artefacts" in shoe boxes and cereal boxes about their lives.
They proudly stood up and presented the history of their artefacts explaining in detail to the class the significance of each object to their lives and why they chose it. They completed a worksheet to help them plan their investigation. An added activity was set for homework- complete a "trip advisor" review on one of the other student's "Museum of Me" and write what they liked about it. They students enjoyed chatting about their artefacts! Just look at their smiles on a job well done in our class photos as they gathered around their objects. This was a great activity to explore the job of the historian.
The students also entered the world of archaeology through an “excavation” of a chocolate cookie! They had to excavate the cookie for “artefacts” (chocolate chips) and map their findings on a grid square like an archaeologist does. They soon learned how how gentle archaeologists have to be with artefacts on a site dig and how destructive the process can be.
Enjoy our photos!
