Young Philosopher of the Year Awards 2019

Our Fifth Year students Katie Steemson and Latoya Boyce represented the school this year in the UCD Young Philosopher of the Year Awards. The judges commended the girls on their enthusiasm presenting their project. The girls asked the philosophical question “ Is Perfection a Disease of our Nation -What is Perfection?” This question centred around how modern day social media influences young women to look a certain way. However, what they discovered, through the process of asking questions, was that this obsession with the perfect body is timeless and dates back to the Ancient Greeks with the perfect body being represented in both art and sculpture!

So what started off with them believing that our pursuit of perfection was a modern day issue, led them to the discovery that the attainment of beauty and perfection has always been dictated to by society leaders and influencers.

Well done girls. We are really proud of ye!
