Hi All,
Welcome back to SLC!
I hope you have managed to keep as fit and healthy as possible during lock down and the extended break away from school. Physical Education has many new guidelines that must be adhered to in order to comply with DES (Department of Education and Skills) guidelines on returning to school. These guidelines for practical subjects can be seen on the DES website (www.gov.ie).
The PEAI (Physical Education Association of Ireland) has also put together some guidelines (see attached picture) for suitable activities. These activities are more workable in a practical sense in terms of maintaining social distance from one another. P.E. activities at the beginning of the year will be moderate in their intensity. This will help us to rebuild our fitness levels gradually and safely.
Important Notes for P.E. at SLC:
- Students should ONLY wear their P.E. kit to school on the day that they have PE on their timetable
- P.E. kit should be appropriate for participation in physical activities. (the SLC PE kit is preferable)
- If you are not physically taking part in your P.E. class for some reason (e.g. injury or illness) you should bring a note (from your parent/guardian or doctor) and wear your normal school uniform
- Where possible, and weather dependent, it will be endeavored to hold P.E. lessons outside (as per guidelines) on the grass fields or Astro turf. Please keep this in mind when selecting the P.E. kit you will wear.
- Face coverings must be brought to each P.E. lesson
- The use of changing facilities at SLC is suspended until further notice.
Looking forward to seeing you all for your P.E. lessons next week!
Best Regards,
Mr. Bennett
